Icon of the 12 Great Feasts Russian painted XIX century 35x30 cm.
This Russian icon is made on wood with egg tempera, and depicts the Twelve Feasts that make up the proclamation of the Church's faith. Starting from the eighteenth century, especially in Russia, some iconographic schemes have developed that grouped the cycle of the twelve feasts in a single representation, making it rotate around the representation of Easter.Easter is not included in this calculation, but, as the ''mother of all feasts'', it is almost its synthesis and fulfillment. Consequently, the scene that takes on great prominence is the central scene, in which various elements are grouped that translate the theological-biblical message of Easter: Christ's descent into hell, the procession of the blessed to Heaven, the resurrection of Christ from the tomb, and the apparition at Lake Tiberias. In addition, some feasts are celebrated on a fixed date: the Nativity of Mary (8 September, the Exaltation of the Cross (14 September, beginning of Holy Week, the Ascension and Pentecost). The actual measurements are 35.5x29 cm.This 12 Great Feasts icon is delivered in an elegant blue velvet box and delivered with a certificate created by Russian experts.
