Russian icon Our Lady of Korsun painted red mantle 14x10 cm.The Russian Tenderness icon was hand painted and it is a unique piece. It is a faithful copy of one of the most famous archetypal originals dating back to the 14th century. The icon got its name from the ancient Greek port of Korsun in the Crimea. Here in 988 the conversion and consequent baptism of Prince Vladimir, the first Christian ruler of Russia, took place. From the inclination of the faces that touch each other (of the Child and of the Madonna), from the intertwining of the hands, and from the worried face of the woman, we can deduce that deep sense of intimacy typical of the ''Our Lady of Tenderness''.In his right hand, the infant Christ holds the parchment of the new law.The Our Lady of Korsun icon is painted on a gold leaf background, according to the principles of the Byzantine-Russian school of icons, on a solid linden wood panel. The Virgin's mantle is red, with gold decorations in the halo. The technique used for the icon is craquele, simulating an antiqued effect. The dimensions of the icon are those of 14x10 cm.The icon comes with its own case, also in linden wood, on the back there is a guarantee certificate attested by a stamp above, a sticker that shows a brief history of the icon and a hook for hanging.
