This orthodox icon is a reproduction of the sixteenth century. It is 100% handmade by Russian artists, following the principles of the Byzantine-Russian school of icons. It is plated with gold leaf on solid linden wood boards measuring 14x10 cm.The icon is a variant of the Hodegetria, in that the Child is slightly turned towards his mother who looks at him and his face shows an emotion, which instead is not frequent in the Hodegetria. According to legend, the icon was painted by St. Luke in Gethsemane. In 453, Leo I brought it to Jerusalem and in 898 it was given to Prince Vladimir who placed the icon in the church of Santa Sofia in Novgorod, after having evangelized northern Russia. The icon remained here until Ivan the Terrible took possession of it in 1571, who wanted to fix it in the Assumption Cathedral in Moscow. On the back, there is a small card with the story of this story, a certificate of guarantee and a small hook. Furthermore, the craquele technique is used and gives it an antiqued touch.
