Russian icon Mother of God Nursing 14x11 cm. Reproduction of an original 18th-century religious icon depicting the Mother of God nursing the Child. The image is hand painted on a solid linden wood panel covered with gold leaf, made according to the principles of the Byzantine-Russian school. The Virgin, dressed in regal drapery, is shown with her head slightly inclined as she holds the Child; her gaze does not meet his and appears thoughtful and sorrowful, perhaps indicating her awareness of the sacrifice her Son will undergo for the good of humanity. The infant, like any baby, reaches for the mother's breast visible beneath her garments, underlining Christ's human nature. The orthodox icon highlights the dual nature of the Child, both divine and fully human. In the gilded background are the darkened sun, the reddened moon, the Greek initials of the Mother of God and numerous trees. On the back of the panel there is a hanging hook and a guarantee certificate with a short description of the icon. Delivered in a simple wooden gift box.
