Icon of the Mother of God the ''Most Honorable'' Russia 21x18 cm.Russian orthodox icon 21x18 cm depicting the Most Honorable Virgin.It is a faithful reproduction of the original icon which dates back to the mid-14th century.The religious icon is made following the principles of the Byzantine-Russian school and consists of a solid linden wood panel, covered with gold leaf and hand painted with tempera colours.Observing the icon, we note that the iconographic type is that of ''Tenderness''. The Virgin is in fact depicted with her cheek in contact with that of her Son as she lovingly holds him in her arms. The Child has his body stretched out towards his mother, thus emphasizing his human and vulnerable nature typical of a child.Another interpretation is that which sees the Virgin as a symbol of the Church and in this interpretation the icon would like to represent the love felt by the Church for its faithful.On the golden background we read the Greek initials of the two subjects, respectively ''He who is'' and ''Mother of God''.On the back of the Mother of God icon, there is a hook for hanging it and a certificate of guarantee. There are two wooden supports that are used to prevent time and humidity from arching.
