Hand painted Russian icon of Saint George 14x10 cm.This orthodox icon represents one of the most frequent motifs of 16th century Russian iconography, Saint George.It is made and produced by hand by Russian artists according to the rules of the Byzantine-Russian school, so it is a unique piece. It is plated with gold leaf on solid linden wood boards measuring 14x10 cm. The background of the design is made with the craquele technique, in order to give an ''antique'' touch to the icon.On the back of the item, there is a stamped certificate of guarantee, a small sheet containing information on the scene depicted, as well as a hook for hanging.According to legend, Saint George died a martyr at the time of the persecutions of Diocletian. In Cappadocia, in fact, there was a city in which a mighty dragon was revered and the inhabitants sacrificed their children to it. Just as the king's daughter was awaiting death at the hands of the dragon, Saint George appeared on his white horse and killed the monster with a sword stroke.On the left, there is a small representation of Saint Nicholas.
