Painted Romanian Icon 'Madonna of Good Counsel' with green background, painted on panel, 30x25 cm. This religious icon is executed on a wooden panel following the Byzantine iconographic school. It depicts the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, their faces close together in a gesture of deep tenderness and protection typical of the Eastern tradition. The green background brings out the figures of Mother and Child, while the icon is enriched by an aged-style painted frame with touches of gold that add luminosity and emphasize the sacred representation. Devotion to Our Lady of Good Counsel expanded notably during the pontificate of Leo XIII, who in 1884 officially approved her liturgical feast and the white scapular of Mater Boni Consilii, granted with indulgences. The icon is closely connected to the Sanctuary of Genazzano and its diffusion worldwide was promoted by the Augustinians and pilgrims who carried the image as a sign of devotion. The icon is delivered in an elegant red presentation box designed to protect it during transport and storage. On the back is affixed a certificate of guarantee signed by the iconographer, accompanied by a short note describing the icon's origin and significance. Actual dimensions: 31x23x2 cm.
