Icon Our Lady of the Sign painted in a Romanian antiqued style, 18x15 cm. This precious religious icon was hand painted following the Byzantine iconographic tradition, with gold leaf applied to the background to give light and solemnity to the image. The design is based on an ancient model rediscovered in 1919 in the storerooms of the Spas-Preobrazhenskij Monastery in Yaroslavl and restored to its original reading through careful cleaning, allowing a clearer understanding of the image venerated in Russia between the 11th and 13th centuries. The Virgin is depicted frontally with raised hands in an attitude of prayer; on her breast is a medallion showing Christ Emmanuel, who blesses with his right hand and holds a scroll in his left, echoing Isaiah's prophecy: "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." The composition is completed by the archangels Michael and Gabriel at either side. The Our Lady of the Sign icon is delivered in an elegant red velvet box with a satin interior and includes an illustrated leaflet explaining its historical and spiritual meaning.
