The subject combines two biblical prophecies: the messianic announcement of Isaiah 7:14 (The Virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, Emmanuel), forming the basis of the icon of the Mother of God of the Sign; Isaiah's vision in chapter 6, where a seraph purifies the prophet by touching his lips with a hot coal. At the center of the icon, enclosed in a cosmic medallion, appears Christ Emmanuel giving a blessing, holding a scroll in his left hand, surrounded by circles representing the universe. In the four corners, within medallions, the Four Evangelists are depicted.
