The sixteen Great Feasts depict the Holy Trinity as described in the Old and New Testaments, the birth of Mary, Mary's Presentation at the Temple, the Annunciation, Christ's Birth, the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, Jesus' Baptism, the Joy of the Afflicted, the beheading of St. John the Baptist, Lazarus' Resurrection, the Entry into Jerusalem, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the Transfiguration of Christ, Christ's Ascension, and Mary's Dormition. In the central part, there is the scene of the descent into hell with Adam and Eve, the procession of the blessed to Paradise with the good thief, Christ's Resurrection, the appearance at the Lake of Tiberias, and the Four Evangelists on the sides.
