FINFIT ENAMEL
Finfin Enamel is an artisan made, antique Russian decoration.
Experts haven't reached an agreement about the origin of this word yet, but many linguists believe that it comes from the Greek "fingitis", which means shiny stone.
Rostov Velikij is the biggest centre in Russia for the artistic manufacturing of the enamel. This art was initiated by the metropolitan Ioan Sysoevitvh. He built and decorated many churches in the city.
At the end of the XVIII century, in Rostov, a group of artists started using this technique to decorate many churches. These were unique pieces, different from the other enamels.
A factory was opened more than 90 years ago, followed by a museum. It represented the whole history of the development of the Finfit enamel, from the very first creations until modern days. This collection features over 1000 displayed objects.
