Ancient Russian icon, Madonna of Kazan XIX century 35x20 cm. This miraculous icon, discovered in Kazan on July 8, 1579 after the Virgin's apparition to a young girl, is among Russia's most venerated. In 1612, it accompanied Kusma Minin and Prince Dmitri Pogiarski in liberating Moscow from the Poles, becoming the protector of the Romanov dynasty. Over time, it was also honored in St. Petersburg, where the famous Kazan Cathedral on Nevskij Prospekt was dedicated to it. It played a significant role during the wars of 1812 and World War II, with processions invoking divine protection with the icon. Small in size like the original, it belongs to the iconographic type Hodegetria, depicting the Mother of God in half-bust with the Child in an upright position.
