This beautiful crucifix was hand carved in wood and then worked with a wax finish with shading.The timber comes from Lima, Peru and is brought to the Andes Mountains, where the workshops are located, at an altitude between 2800 and 3600 meters.Here the timber must age from 1 to more years, depending on the thickness. This beautiful crucifix was hand carved in wood and then worked with a wax finish with shading.The timber comes from Lima, Peru and is brought to the Andes Mountains, where the workshops are located, at an altitude between 2800 and 3600 meters.Here the timber must age from 1 to more years, depending on the thickness. When the humidity drops to 12-13% it is ready to be used. The drawing, first performed on paper, is shown on the wooden board.Subsequently, the wood is sculpted with the help of chisels and gouges.In the first phase of processing it is roughed out defining the figures, then with other tools worked patiently until the complete realization of the image with all its details.The image is intense and represents Mary contemplating the mystery of the Son with great pain.All the young sculptors have graduated from the " Don Bosco" art school and received tools to be able to work by hand.This wooden crucifix is made in Peru by local artisans.

Francesco R.2/27/2022Opera d'arte, bellissima e curatissima nei minimi dettagli. Colpisce la sofferenza impressa nel volto di Gesù e della Madonna, ogni volta che lo guardi. Non mi è chiaro il motivo dei 2 chiodi ai piedi.
