The nativity shepherd with the lamb on his shoulders is a timeless figure of the traditional nativity scene, symbolizing care, protection, and dedication. Crafted from Faenza ceramic, this figurine depicts a young shepherd with a serene gaze, affectionately carrying the lamb on his neck. The green attire and meticulously sculpted details evoke an authentic and delicate image, brimming with poetry. Artisanally made using the Faenza ceramic technique, the figurine is born by pouring slip, a liquid clay, into plaster molds. After drying and manual finishing, the piece undergoes an initial firing at 1000°C, preparing it for decoration. Colors, achieved with lead-free non-toxic glazes, are meticulously hand-applied. Subsequent steps include a bath in transparent crystalline for brilliance and protection, followed by a second firing at 920°C. The golden details are then applied using 10% pure gold leaf, culminating in a third firing at 720°C. Created by Dellarte Ceramics, a family-run workshop active for over 20 years. Founded by Paola Zaghi, an artist with extensive experience in teaching Art History and painting design, the brand combines aesthetic sensitivity and artisanal mastery to create nativity scenes rich in meaning, beauty, and tradition.
