According to scholars, the Icon was painted by the Greek monk Ignatius in 1383, and in that year the legend says that it would reveal itself on the banks of the Tychvinka river where the sanctuary was later built. Hand-painted icon with tempera on linden wood and covered with gold-plated leaves, antiqued with a painting technique used by Polish craftsmen, with traditional Russian icon making techniques.
