Russian icon Our Lady of Tolga painted 14x10 cm.This Russian orthodox icon of the Mother of God appeared on August 8, 1314 to the bishop of Rostov. On his way to visit his eparchy, he stopped the night on the right bank of the Volga River to pray. At midnight he saw a bright flare spreading around. The glow came from a pillar of fire on the other side of the river joined by a bridge.Taking his stick, the bishop crossed the bridge to reach the other bank and saw an icon of the Mother of God above the pillar of fire. Amazed by the vision, the bishop prayed for a long time and going back he forgot his stick. The next morning when the bishop was preparing to continue his journey, he did not find his staff. Then the bishop, remembering the vision, told everything and the people sent to the other side of the river by boat saw the icon in the wood next to the staff. The bishop then decided to build a church on that spot. The feast of this icon is established on August 8th.This Mother of God of Tolga icon is a hand painted copy of the original, dating back to the 15th century. It was made on a solid linden wood table, covered with gold leaves.Measures 14x10cm.
