Russian icon Madonna Vladimir Rublev painted red mantle 14x10 cm.
This Russian icon is a faithful copy of one of the most famous original archetypes of Rublev's Our Lady of Vladimir from the 15th century. The icon of this Virgin has been revered as a national sacred subject. It was brought from Constantinople to Visograd near Kiev and in 1155 Prince Andrew Bogolubaki transferred it to the city of Vladimir, Russia. From there the icon got its own name of ''Vladimirska''.The iconographic type belongs to the ''Our Lady of Tenderness'' type, as the two close faces (of the Virgin and of the child Jesus) and the worried face of the Virgin, already aware of the fate that her son will have, are two typical features of this iconographic category. The icon was created and hand painted, according to the principles of the Byzantine-Russian school of icons. It is covered with gold leaf and is made on a solid linden wood board measuring 14x10 cm.The Virgin's mantle is bright red and the entire icon has a ''craquele'' effect, thus simulating an antiqued effect. On the back, at the top, there is a hook for hanging, a guarantee certificate with stamp and a sticker that heralds part of the history of the icon.
