This is probably one of the most beloved and worshipped icon of ancient Russia. Ivan the Terrible took it with him in the battle against the Tartars; in 1612 the Russian troupes brought it to Moscow when freeing the city from the Polish; in 1812 Alexander I had it with his army against Napoleon.
