Ancient Russian icon depicting the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor with scenes, dating back to the XX century. This orthodox icon is usually part of the Twelve Feast cycle of the liturgical year. It is traditionally the first one that an iconographer writes as the beginning of their artistic career. The central and upper part of the icon portrays the main scene: the Transfiguration of Christ on Mount Tabor in white garments as described in the Gospel of Matthew. The figure stands out against a triple background: the outer circle symbolizes the cloud in which God spoke to Moses, the dark inside recalls the darkness of faith's obscurity, whose light refers to the experience of proximity to God. Rays point upwards (towards the angelic hosts) and three downwards towards the Apostles. Elijah is on the left, while on the right holding a book is Moses. The six scenes on the sides depict: Moses with the burning bush, St. George and the Dragon, Jesus in Gethsemane, St. Nicholas of Mozhaysk with a sword in his right hand and the city in his left hand, and other saints. Presented in an elegant blue box, it is accompanied by an expert report. Origin: Moscow. Technique: gold background tempera. Materials: wood, levkas. Actual size: 37.3x31.8 cm. Century: XX.
