The Virgin is in a white tunic and blue and gold robes. She rests her bare feet on a snake with a rose in its mouth, which in turn is on a hemisphere on which a starry sky is painted. It is a scene full of meaning and allusions: in the first place the snake represents the evil which is dominated here by the presence of the Madonna, the rose is one of the Christian symbols associated with the love of Christ and finally the starry sky alludes precisely to the Madonna's ascension into heaven.
