Russian style icon Our Lady of Vladimir 31.5X27 cm, made by Polish artists using traditional methods.It is an important representation of the Madonna for Russian people. It is a typical example of Byzantine iconography of the Eleusinian typology. The original icon was painted in Constantinople in the 12th century and was kept in the Mezyhir'ja monastery, a medieval royal residence, until 1155 when it was brought to the city of Vladimir from which it takes its name. according to popular legend, the horses stopped in that city and decided not to leave again. later, to house the image, a large cathedral was built, the Cathedral of the Dormition. In 1395, during the Tamerlane invasion, the icon was brought to Moscow.This orthodox icon shows the Madonna holding Jesus in her arms.
