Russian icon Our Lady of Belozersk 14x11 cm.
Reproduction of the original Russian icon representing Our Lady of Belozersk, dating back to the 16th century and now kept in the Russian Museum of St. Petersburg.The linden wood religious icon measures 14x11 cm and is covered with gold leaf and hand painted with tempera colors.Observing the orthodox icon, one notices the Virgin holding the Child with her right hand while slightly bowing her head towards him. The left arm is bent and the hand points to the Son, a gesture that symbolizes that the right path to follow lies precisely in the Child. However, Mary's face is pained, in contrast to the love that transpires from the scene, this to indicate the Virgin's awareness of the fact that she will be forced to sacrifice her son for the good of humanity. According to the interpretation of some scholars, even the bare legs of the Child are significant, wanting in this way to combine the vulnerability of his tender age with his cruel fate.The Child Jesus rests his cheek against his mother's as he lovingly embraces her neck. It is therefore the iconographic type ''of Tenderness''.The Greek initials of the two subjects can be read in the golden background of the icon.On the back, there is a certificate of guarantee and a hook for hanging. It is delivered in a wooden gift box.
