Russian icon Saint Nicholas 32x27 cm hand painted and restored, the panel is ancient from the 19th century.St. Nicholas of Bari, archbishop of Myra, is venerated as a miracle worker, and is considered the protector of sailors, merchants and children.In the icon, St. Nicholas is depicted half-length.In his left hand, the Saint holds the Gospel. The right hand is instead raised in the gesture of blessing.Above the shoulders of Saint Nicholas, on a mantle of clouds, there are the figures of Christ holding out the Gospel and the Madonna holding out the omophorion, a typical vestment of Orthodox bishops, in memory of the divine intervention which led to the consecration of the Wonderworker as bishop of Myra.The Saint Nicholas icon dates back to the 19th century and comes from Russia. It is 100% hand painted on a levkas wooden table with egg tempera according to the strict rules of the Byzantine iconographic tradition.
