Icon of the Mother of God of Three Hands Russia painted 19th century 45x40 cm.This miraculous icon, dating back to Central Russia in the nineteenth century, we remember it connected to a series of events including the amputation of the hand of John Damaskin, unjustly accused before the caliph. Overwhelmed by suffering, John asked the caliph to hand him the severed hand and he accepted.When he returned to his room, he placed his hand in his place and began to pray in front of an image of the Virgin. While he was praying, Our Lady appeared who healed him and, according to legend, John for joy wrote a famous song to express his love for the Mother of God. Later he went to the monastery, took the icon with him and, in memory of the his recovery, he built and attached a silver hand under the image.Another episode connected to this icon concerns the invasion of the Turks in Serbia, during which the faithful tried to save the holy image and the only solution found was to place the icon on a donkey, which wandered up to the front to the Hilendarsij monastery.Following a sign from the Mother of God, the monks of that monastery decided that the icon should occupy the post of parish priest and so they did.The icon of the Three Hands measures precisely 46.5x40 cm and was made with egg tempera on wood.This Three Hands icon is delivered in an elegant blue velvet case and with an expert opinion certificate.
