Saint Benedict medal in zamak, 3 cm. The front features Saint Benedict, holding a cross in his right hand, a symbol of salvation, and the monastic Rule in his left hand. To his right, under the cross, there is a broken cup, recalling the miracle where poisoned wine shattered after the saint made the sign of the cross over it. To his left, under the rule, a raven is seen carrying away a poisoned loaf of bread, symbolizing protection against dangers and deceits. These elements are associated with the tradition that attributes to the medal the power to protect against poisoning. On the back, the large initials C.S.P.B. stand for Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti (''The cross of the Holy Father Benedict''). Inside the cross are the initials C.S.S.M.L. – N.D.S.M.D., meaning Crux sacra sit mihi lux – Non draco sit mihi dux, translating to ''May the holy cross be my light – Let not the dragon be my guide''. Around the edge, the letters V.R.S.N.S.M.V. – S.M.Q.L.I.V.B. are engraved, an abbreviation of the prayer: Vade retro Satana! Numquam suade mihi vana. Sunt mala quae libas. Ipse venena bibas (''Get behind me, Satan! Do not suggest vain things to me. Evil is the cup you offer. Drink your own poison''). At the top of the medal, the word PAX appears, meaning ''peace''. Made in Italy.
