Our Lady of Fiodor Russian icon, 36x30cm.
This icon is one of the most popular in the Russian tradition; the name Fiodor comes from the fact that Prince Jaroslaw of VLadimir was baptised with this name.
According to the legend, this icon appeared in 1239 in Kostorma (close to Moscow) and because famous for many miracles. It was then brought to the local cathedral.
In this icon Christ Emmanuel is held on the right arm by the Virgin and he touches the Mother with his cheek and puts his hand on her shoulder.
Hand-painted in Russia following the traditions of the Russian iconography.
Coated with gold leaves on linden wood.
