Icon. Antique icon of the 'Christ Pantocrator' dating back to XIX century. The icon portraits a frontal a half bust of a hieratic Jesus with a truly deep expression on his face.
Christ holds the book of Gospel opened in his left hand (Christ the magister), facing towards the faithful and according to the orthodox/byzantine rite, blesses them with the palm of his hand opened in teaching gesture.
The peculiarity of this icon lies in the expression of Jesus face, which tells the ineffability of God become human.
All this kind of Christ Pantocrator icons have some common traits: Christ is bearded and his hair centrally parted, his forehead wide, strongly marked hair lashes, deep melancholy and stern long shaped eyes; red tight lips closed in a wise silence and his ears small and almost distorted, underlining his listening attitude.
