Icon. Antique icon piece dating back to the XVIII century.
The icon represent the 'Exaltation of the Holy Cross' celebration each September 14 in memory of the various events referring to the history of Christ Holy Cross:
- The apparition of the Holy Cross to the Emperor Constantine, before the battle on Bridge Milvio in 312 (that marks end of Christian prosecutions);
- The finding of the historical Cross by Helen, mother of Constantine, in Jerusalem and its 'ostension' by the patriarch Macarius in 326;
- The building of the cathedral of the Resurrection on the spot of the Calvary, which was consecrated September 13, 335; the recovery eventually in 628 of the relics stolen by the Persians.
In the center two priests holding the cross, on the right entreating St Helen with the faithful in adoration.
