Plot: Germany 1939. The protestant theologist Dietrich Bonhoeffer rejects Nazism. For this reason, he is banned from teaching, from speaking in public and publishing his works. Hans von Dohnanyi, his friend and broche-in-law, encourages him to join the Abwehr, the German military intelligence. The clandestine resistance, in fact uses this organisation to help the Jews to escape from Germany and to destroy Nazism. On 5 April 1943, Bonhoeffer is arrested and brought to prison in Tiegel. For two years, he is interviewed. He finds strength in the prayer and in Mary, his young girlfriend. In 1945, he is destined to a prison camp in Flossenbürg and hanged. In his cell, it was found the Bible and Goethe: the holy book par excellence and the secular writer par excellence. Two symbols, one the passion for heaven and the other, the passion for the earth.
